How To Be Liked at Work – Maintaining a good relationship with coworkers is something that you naturally need to do, because however you live in a work culture that definitely requires you to be familiar and have positive interactions with them.
But sometimes various obstacles can make you be less acceptable to many of your coworkers in the office, and not many people know that having this particular habit can make you liked by many people at work.
A study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology found that people who wrote gratitude diaries for two weeks were preferred at work.
How To Be Liked at Work
It’s easy to be grateful to make a peaceful life.
Study co-author Shannon Taylor, professor of management at the University of Central Florida, said that the “simple act” of writing down what you’re grateful for every day “can change your outlook, the way you work and the way coworkers see you.
Writing a gratitude diary requires a person to remember and write down the events and experiences that make him grateful, which is also naturally able to foster a sense of respect for life and oneself.
The study, which involved 200 participants who worked for at least 20 hours per week, was asked to write a diary containing gratitude. As a result, after two weeks of diary writing, they rarely engaged in situations of fighting, arguing, disrespecting, and even being ostracized by their co-workers.
Gratitude can foster feelings of ‘sincere’ or easy to accept circumstances and adapt easily, so that people who are easily grateful tend to have positive attitudes and thoughts and optimistic about many things.
So, if you feel you have a toxic attitude at work, try to overcome by writing a gratitude diary. Learn to be grateful for everything before commenting badly.
Want to ask
At work, people who are more diligent in asking questions are usually preferred. This makes the desire of others to help and share the information they have channeled. The point is, people who want to ask questions and ask for help from others must be preferred.
Talk more
Try to pay attention to people who talk a lot (of course talking about good things), generally they are liked by many people. Good communication is one way to get others interested in getting along with us.
Give time
Willingness to give time to accompany, hear, or help someone do something will make him more liked. Active people are generally more favored than passive people.
Find something that brings you and your co-workers closer together.
The next way you can do to be liked by your coworkers is to look for things you both like.
For example, your coworker has a hobby of watching movies. Then you can try to approach him by asking him to talk about the movie.
If you already feel closer, try to invite him to watch a movie together in the cinema.
To find out things that can bring you closer to your coworker is easy.
You can try to get closer with a coworker by taking him to lunch or hanging out after work.
Invite your friends to talk about anything. Then you can ask what things he likes.
If they have the same interests as you, surely you will be more easily familiar, right?
Be a Spring for Your Environment
Like a spring that provides freshness for the surrounding environment. It becomes something that is needed by the creatures around it to be able to live and grow. Likewise, make yourself a person who spreads passion, happiness and a positive aura for your coworkers. Be a reliable friend, one who can provide solutions and benefits to your environment.
It does not need research data from any institution to prove that people who spread benefits are always liked by their environment. Look at the people around you, and find someone who, when they find a problem, he or she will focus on finding a solution instead of constantly thinking about the problem let alone blaming others. If anything, observe what kind of interactions people in the workplace or the environment they live in with them. He must be very well liked.
